Drs Erica Bongers presents iFarming in India

On 22 February, Erica Bongers will present iFarming at the Poultry Masterclass at VIV/ILDEX in Bangalore, India. iFarming is a future philosophy for meat production in the intensive farming industry, where interests of the farmer, consumer and society are balanced

Indian poultry farmers are facing a major challenge. In 2030 India will be the most populated country supporting 18% of people in the world. To feed all these people, intensive livestock farming in India has to become more efficient. Fancom can help this happen through iFarming or intelligent Farming, a new, future proof way of meat production in which the interests of the farmer, consumer and society are balanced.

Continuous and automatic monitoring
iFarming is characterised by the automatic and continuous monitoring of ambient conditions in the house, combined with animal-based measurements that registers welfare. iFarming starts with integrated systems for climate, feed and biometrics, which generate a lot of useful information about the environment the animals are raised in, their feed and water intake and how they respond to this in terms of growth and health.

Better insight into animal performance
Special analysis software enables data to be registered so it can be converted into valuable management information. This then leads to better insight into animal performance, operational processes and financial consequences. This method also allows producers to show the supply chain how animals are raised in order to safeguard their ‘license to produce’.

Better return on investment
iFarming offers many benefits which include: improved growth performance, improved animal welfare, energy savings, shorter production times and reduced manure and logistics costs all leading to a better return on investment.

Erica: "I am convinced that the industry will require these methods for healthy profits and in order to continue complying with the growing demands for animal proteins and the growing influence of today’s critical consumers.  If you believe you are a stakeholder in the future of intensive Farming in India, I would be more than happy to meet you in Bangalore and discuss Fancoms vision for the future".
