eYeScan at Open Innovation Days Sterksel

Friday 17 and Saturday 18 June are the dates of the first Innovation Open Days for Pig Husbandry- hosted at the Pig Innovation Centre (VIC) in Sterksel. During the Open Days, Fancom will be attending with the eYeScan growth monitor.

In recent years the VIC in Sterksel has showcased a whole range of new developments relating to animal welfare, animal health, increasing profitability, housing, climate, labour, mineral management and energy.

One of the new developments is Fancom’s eYeScan, a camera system that records the growth pattern of a group of fatteners. eYeScan is being trialled at the VIC in the context of the ‘1000 grams of growth’ project. In practical situations there appears to be a great need for a way to automatically collect data relating to fattener weight. At the moment managing fatteners is still too much of a black box as the growth is not monitored while the animals are actually growing. If the weight of pigs can be determined, this can give greater insight which can in turn allow the management process to be optimised.

A whole range of minor and major innovations for pig husbandry can be seen at the Open Innovation Days. Researchers, professionals and the authorities will all be present to explain more about the innovations.

The Open Innovation Days are taking place on 17 June from 13.30 to 20.00 (tent open until 22.00) and on 18 June from 10.00 to 16.00. Admission is free.
