The climate in large sections housing pigs is often more difficult to control than in small sections. Thanks to a sophisticated combination of air inlets, air exhaust, heating and if required humidity or cooling, you can create the conditions for a top performance from your animals housed in large sections. The climate very gradually changes from minimum to maximum, without any temperature fluctuations that could upset animal growth.

Uniform growth conditions for all animals in the house

Fancom’s solution to ensure a uniform climate with identical growth conditions for all the animals in the house, is its PowerFlow ventilation system. PowerFlow was developed especially for large sections used to house pigs The reward is improved growth and exceptionally high uniformity of all the animals supplied. The PowerFlow Ventilation system can be used for all animal categories and all over the world.

How does a ventilation system work in large sections used to house pigs?

Air enters the building via air inlets placed at the side or ridge of the house and is extracted by controllable fans in the rear gable, side wall or ridge. The speed and direction of the incoming air can be controlled accurately, and the fresh air is distributed evenly throughout the entire house. In the minimum ventilation zone, the main purpose is accurate supplying fresh air to extract CO2, NH3, moisture and dust and introduce oxygen rich air. In colder regions in particular, being able to control minimum ventilation correctly is essential when young animals are concerned to create the right conditions for growth. In these situations the Fancom ATM units continually measure and control the air flow. These patented airflow transmitters are mounted below the ridge fans and measure the air flow accurately. The control valve provides additional control where necessary, for even more accurate supplies of fresh air to the animals.

Tunnel ventilation creates a cooling breeze

If the demand for ventilation increases, extra fans are gradually activated to remove the heat produced by the animals. The gentle transition avoids any disturbances in the air flow pattern. For an additional cooling effect, a tunnel inlet can be activated. This configuration causes the so-called tunnel effect where air flows over the animals at great speed. This air flow creates a cooling breeze, which contributes to the ideal temperature for pigs. In extreme outdoor conditions, this system can be extended by adding cooling system with pad cooling. The pad cooling can be continuously adjusted depending on the needs of the animals.

Natural ventilation saves energy

In regions which experience high winds, natural ventilation can add up to considerable energy savings. In houses in this situation air inlets and controllable exhaust fans are used for minimum ventilation, while curtains on both sides of the building provide the natural ventilation. This system uses the natural wind present as much as possible However, if it becomes too cold or hot in the house, PowerFlow simply switches to mechanical ventilation.

PowerFlow regulates the ventilation based on the animals' weight and automatically adjusts the ventilation levels to suit their needs. The computer automatically calculates the ideal ventilation positions to avoid unnecessary ventilation or heating.
